Tabang, The Wonder Dog

A Dog Hero

A month ago, an askal (a Philippine regular dog breed) made it to our country’s national news. Tabang caught everyone’s attention for her heroic act, in rescuing the two young girls from an alleged hit-and-run incident (who truly proved what her names worth, Tabang in Visayan language means help). Tabang’s face now brutally scared and deformed (even TV videos and Newsprint photos has to be blurred for the now gruesome image the dog has after the accident) now in care of Zamboanga veterinary doctors. Zamboanga’s locality even sought help from different NGOs both in the Philippines and abroad for the dog hero’s facial surgery.  Our government even proposed to declare Tabang as our country’s official hero (in line with names of such world famous boxer - Manny Pacquio, People Power Hero – Benigno Aquino, and more alike).

There are two points I see in Cabang’s story:

© Tabang is such a wonder and a care bear. Everyone wanted to have a dog pet, probably would have an option to lastly choose an askal.of all the dogs I had, my fave was “Jackpot”, a shih tzu. My askal pets were all fine but a well-breed one stand out the most.  Admit it askal are cheap (we can even have them for free!), and low in maintenance to feed and groom (we could feed them anything even our left- overs and we can use ordinary soap to bath them). Now, Tabang and all other untold stories of askals’ heroic act must change all those biasness. After all all men should be equal, as well as dogs too.

© Instead (Aside) from honouring Tabang’s glorifying and faithful act, our government should also push through and strictly impose our existing animal welfare laws. We should also insist in my past blogs, this government should also have laws regarding proper caring, responsible pet ownership and liabilities with all domesticated animals.DOH Secretary if you are busy and hadn’t thought about this yet, now I am calling again your attention.

Mind versus Heart versus Ego

‘These past few days is the most dreaded and depressing days of my life.

Expectations… Once you didn’t meet them, you feel awfully sick.
You lower your standards… and you still weren’t able to get what you expect… you feel so horribly down.

I had a manic depression attack. Yes, I admit it. I honestly say that I am weak. I could not stand feeling defeated and lost. I am used to achieving and receiving recognition and respect that I deserve. But I didn’t receive the treatment that I deserve. It’s so frustrating that I am rapidly losing my value as a professional.

I felt hell… I felt more that blurry yellow… I felt terribly awful… I felt like crying the whole day.. .I felt like loosing my sanity… I felt degraded…

I lost myself for a moment… weep

My Kung Hei Fat Choi Resolution

My Kung Hei Fat Choi Resolution

Well, well, well… 2010 passed.. Welcomes 2011.. Again, another New Year celebration by our Chinese brothers. Last December 31, 2010, before 12Midnight strikes, I wrote the following lists as to my new stuffs to do and to give up this 2011. Though it started with a very long list, but I manage to trim it down to fewer easier ones = )

1.   No soda for all the days of 2011
2.   Do good at my job and whatever task I had committed (but lately, I kind of so depressed with what had happened at work. ‘Tell you about this some other time)
3.   Regular quiet time (so tough to keep this with all the negativity and too much work to do)
4.   Save at least PhP1, 000.00 every month to Rap’s savings account (I hardly can’t save 500 a month, sigh)
5.   Organize dad and Rap’s birthday climb this year
6.   Pay the remaining PhP7, 000.00 we owe from Mamang Nena
7.   At least  2 blogs a week (too hard to keep up with my interest to write and my schedule)

I do hope I can keep up with this list. These resolutions are harder than I thought.

The Truth About Coke

I love Coca-Cola ("Coke" as famously called here in Philippines). I think Almost Everyone loved this carbonated drink. I almost have to be confined in a hospital (a year ago and when I was pregnant 4 years ago) of having UTI (though the product may not be the sole reason to be blamed but it contibuted to my acquired disease ). 'Still after suffering from extreme abdominal pain (caused by UTI, thank God it hadn't developed into major, major diseases like Kidney failure or Liver Problems...) I still gulped enormous amount of Coke. There's something about Coke that I go crazy about. I can't explain. It must be the strong, tingling and refreshing taste on my tongue once it reaches my mouth. It leaves something unexplainable. At work, since our company only allows Coke's rival product, I have to bear the taste of the carbonated drink sold in our cafeteria. I wanted to have a sip of Coke. It'll be at home or somewhere. It wouldn't satisfy my thirst for Coke. Even I drank a gallons of Coke's rival drink, it would never replace the taste of an 8 oz bottle of Coke. Coke rules!

But wait, Coke has more use than drinking. Here's what I read over the internet that you might be interested in. Coke can actually be used as home kitchen cleaning stuff. Here are some of it.

1.  Boiling Cleaned a burned saucepan by pouring Coke into it and
This takes out all the staining.

*I tried it, and it works. I don't have to scratch my too expensive non-stick pan!

2. It’s easy to make a modern photograph look like an old sepia one. Ju
st lightly brush the photograph with Coca Cola and dry quickly. Don’t wet it too much or it will buckle. Photocopied black and white pictures make great looking “antique” prints, if you treat them in the same way. Maps photocopied and treated this way, look fantastic in antique style frames.

*talking 'bout a non-electronic Photoshop, hahaha!

3. If you dye your hair and the result is too intense, flat Coca Cola will help to lighten it.

*'but you might try washing it off once your hair lightens up a bit, you don't want those ants feast on your hairs tasteful Coke. lol

4. Give old coins a soak in Coke. This gives a brilliant shine for collections and decorative items.5. Pour Coca Cola into your kettle and leave all day. This will remove limescale and leaves it clean inside.

*It also works with silver spoons, belt and aluminum sink. It can be an alternative MEtal polish. Wallah! Instant shine

6. A can of Coke poured into the toilet will clean it. The acid in the drink gets to work right away.

*You don't have to keep any poisonous oxalic acid, chlorine or muriatic acid on your closet. Just buy extra coke not just for refrigerator storage but also on your household cleaning closet.

7. Make an excellent barbecue sauce by mixing Coke and Ketchup , half and half. Coat chicken, meat, etc with this before cooking. It’s mouthwatering.

*Your barbeques and steaks will perfectly absorb your marinate sauce.

8. Flat Coke makes a good hair conditioner. Pour it over your hair, rinse and dry.

*I tried it, i looked like I overdosed on relaxing cream. Please do not try this one out. Unless, you might want to experience how it feels when treated with cobalt or chemotherapy.

9. Put Coke into flat wide dishes in the garden and it will help to rid your plants of slugs. They are attracted by the sweet smell and once they fall in, they can’t get out.

*Speaking of trapping those insects, you might want to wash your plants as soon as those bugs where trapped. You may not want to be attacked by unrully, bitting ants later.

10. Rusty bolts can be loosened by soaking a rag in Coca Cola, and wrapping it around the bolt. Leave for a few hours and it will be easier to move.

*Coke actualy metls rusts? Or Coke actually melts metal?

11. Clean your jewelery in a glass of Coke. Brush with a toothbrush and rinse well. (Not recommended for valuable items, or those with gem stones in them.)

*Again, Coke can take good care of our valuables. Expensive stuffs. Ah, you don't have to pay for expensive cleaning liquids to take good care of our keep sake items.

and the last but not eh least, of course.. Coke can be...

12. Flat Coca Cola helps to settle upset stomachs. Don’t use fresh, fizzy Coke as this could irritate the condition. (Take the fizz out by adding a little sugar, if you need to.)

*But of course you might want to prepare a tissue 'cuz you have to end up to a restroom to fully get rid of those undesirable stuff inside your tummy. But it will just be one time big time poo. Unless, you didn't ate anything, you're safe that you won't have to visit the rest room.

Now, you have an idea what to really buy in large amount when you are in a grocery store. Buy lot's of Coke for your refrigerator as well as stocks for your home-cleaning-closet.
